Roadmap FAQ
Answers to the hot-button questions on the future of RNDR

What is RNDR's partnership with Sia?

SiaCoin is a project that the RNDR team has kept on its radar for a number of years, and the possibility of integration has been discussed.
However, at the present, bolstering the RNDR network's capacity, finishing the RNDR SDK, providing Arnold support (via Hydra in the RNDR SDK), and validating some non-RNDR apps on the service are all on the timeline ahead of any SiaCoin integrations.

What is your partnership with Basic Attention Token (BAT)?

As mentioned above, the current plan is finishing the RNDR SDK before looking to expand out. Brendan Eich, who is one of RNDR's most active advisors, has discussed the potential that languages like WASM and future APIs like WebGPU have for RNDR modules down the developmental line, but the idea of both being involved in the RDNR SDK backend has been discussed.
BAT's technology for mapping ads and ad viewership has also been discussed as a framework for potential RNDR development in ray casting ad topology across virtual 3D spaces.

What is your partnership with Decentraland?

Decentraland, like Sia and BAT, are both on the radar and represent avenues for exploring other services on the RNDR network, whether that be tied into VR works created on the network displayed in virtual environments, or integrating BATs ad mapping into VR ad experiences in Virtual space.

When is Arnold Render being added?

Currently adding multiple renderers, including Arnold, is one of the long term goals of RNDR. But the main goal of the team currently is stabilizing the network and bringing multiple version support for Octane to RNDR.

When will Tier 1 be released?

Tier 1 has actually been up since 4/27, just with a closed group of customers and backend nodes on a staging version of RNDR.otoy.com. We plan to make it more widely available once we have more nodes and partners onboarded.

What kind of nodes are selected for Tier 1?

Tier 1 selection is based on node reputation score, as well as system specs. When we have collected enough data we will be releasing more information on the parameters.
On the security side, we are a part of MESA to help advise and follow best practices for cloud security - there might be some additional KYC and/or audits for nodes in the future in order to become Tier 1. Please follow us on Medium where we will be releasing information when it is ready.

When will Enterprise Tier be released?

Enterprise Tier actually has been up since 4/27, just with a closed group of customers and backend nodes on a staging version of RNDR.otoy.com. We plan to make it more widely available once we have more nodes and partners onboarded.

How big is the team currently working on RNDR and how much of their time is currently dedicated to the project? How many are focused on Engineering / Marketing / etc?

We have a 10 person team dedicated to RNDR, with all of OTOY providing support in developing the network alongside our team. We are currently expanding the team to be more front-facing, as we are shifting to a product and consumer oriented phase of the network.
